We LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Borneo. It was a rather unexpected addition to our journey and we are so glad we managed make our way there. Every bit of this trip was something different, exotic and new. We started our trip in Mulu National park. A national park that is out in the middle of no where. In fact, it was so remote we had to fly in as the only way to access the park.
We spent about 5 short days here in our first destination (not including our night over in Miri to make our connection to the park) and it was definitely the wild rainforest adventure we’d hoped for. We walked through the jungles to find some of the weirdest bugs I’ve ever seen, I mean stuff you would see in National Geographic magazines. Stuff you never imagined. We also saw one of the world’s largest caves and largest bat colonies, which also means plenty of giant guano piles. Definitely slipped in that a couple times… ha!
We took morning and night guided tours to find all the creepy crawlers and sleeping birds. We visited a local tribe within the park which we reached by boat and a young woman took us into the jungle through leech filled, mud valleys in search of beautiful waterfalls.
Everyday was just as exciting as the next and this vibe carried throughout our entire time in Borneo. Check out our photos below from Mulu National Park. Also, if you want to watch way too long of a bat video with lots of “WOW,” look below the gallery.
Beautiful pictures! I wonder how many bats flew out of the cave!🦇
